WARN 86245 VR8000 8,000 lb Winch Review

Warn claims this winch is assembled in the USA, may be but with China made parts. Black paint was alredy flaking off of tie bars and fasteners before I removed it from the box. Plastic remote looks like a toy, hope it lasts longer than it's apperance. I was surprised to find four of the cheap solenoids in the control box; all other entry level winches use improved single solenoid which is more reliable. The finish on the roller fairlead is ok, much better on winches which cost less. Hope I did not make a mistake, perhaps I should have purchased a Superwinch.

Ordered one set of these for my 2009 Toyota Tundra to haul a 15' canoe and 2 kayaks while towing a 6x12 trailer. Due to the trailer I needed my hitch free and I had to be careful of clearance from the tailend of the truck. Also purchased a set of racks for the top of the truck and between the 3 we have great holds and support for all 3 items. Bars go on and off pretty easy. Had difficulties at first due to socket in my toolbox not deep enough to tighten well and using a wrench was a pain. Ran down to Sears and for $3 I was in heaven. Problem solved! Bar seemed flimsy for support while putting up but man oh man, once up, it is solid like a rock.

These are a much needed improvement for night driving. They throw out about 2-3x more light on low and the high beams are awesome. In addition to that they give the front end a much better appearance than what they came with. I've got 300k miles on the 99 SUV, the old lamps had yellowed and delaminated after 14 years of service. Had my mechanic install them, took about 45 minutes. The mechanic called me to let me know that the pin alignment was not exact, but after trying one concluded that every thing worked (Blinkers, high beams and low beams).

The assemblies ship with the bulbs all installed, that alone is about a $75 value.
