Okay, first of all, this is a great buy. For $112 dollars, shipping and all, it's a lot cheaper than buying thoseproducts that are suppose to restore your headlight lenses when they are yellowed out. It's also a lot cheaper than
buying new replacements for each lens. You get the headlights (WITH BULBS!), park lights, and corner lights. Let me
explain what the deal is with the wiring and features of these.
First off - the bulbs are not super bright or special in much any way. They are not much brighter and are faintly
blue. By no means are you going to get luxury car lights. Those require expensive transformers and other electrical
components that can cost you up to $1000 dollars for aftermarket applications.
What they do offer is a neat xenon light (decorative only) that goes around the bright bulb. You connect it to your
park lights so when you turn on your park lights they come on two. Also there is another light in the 'dim' bulb
that is a regular small light that kind of lights up the lens a little. I saw no point in this one. I tried to wire
them up but they are very fragile. One side had a short in it and barely worked. The other side was fine until I
went to the parts store to pick up some new bulbs. When I did I barely tugged the hot wire that went to this bulb
and it pulled out, hit the chassis and blew my fuse.
Other than that, they are regular headlights with clear lenses all the way around. (Be sure you buy or have YELLOW
bulbs for these!)
Okay as for the wires that come dangling out of these headlights, you don't have to hook any of them up. But if you
do here are some instructions on the best way to do so.
First of all, there are two short red wires. These are the wires I complained about earlier. These power the light
on the dim side of the lens. The light is dim and just simply lights up the housing a little. I don't see any
purpose for this simply because in the day time you wouldn't be able to notice them, and at night when you can
actually see it (and its OK looking) you would have headlights on and not notice it. They are very short and hard to
wire into anything unless you add some wire to them. Oh, one red wire is positive, one is negative. Either one can
be used either way as polarity is not an issue.
Now the long wires you have are for the neat little xenon lit frame around the bright bulb. I actually like these.
Each headlight assembly has FOUR wires. Two positive and two negative. Please take special notice to the positive
wires if you intend to cut them as they have a resister built into them. You can see where it is, so as long as you
cut below there you'll be fine. Other reviewers on here have accidentally not noticed them and cut it off and fried
the xenon trim. Now there are 4 wires total, I don't know why they built it like this but 2 of the wires light half
the oval and the other 2 light up the other side. Anyway, just twist the new negatives together and screw them to a
good ground. I found the bolts that bolt the headlight assembly to the front of the truck work quite well and are
easy to reach (especially if you intend to wire up the short wire for the other light. If you do, simply twist all
three together then tighten the bolt down on the wires.
Now for the positive wires. I chose to wire them into my park lights so when I turned them on, the lights would come
on too. Other people may want to wire them to an always on when the ignition is on but I went the simpler route. So
if you connect them to your park lights you have to connect them to the right wire. There are three wires that go to
each park light. The one in the middle on my truck is the solid light wire. If you connect to the wrong positive
then the lights in the headlights (Not the headlight bulbs) will blink when the turn signal blinks. The thickest
wire is the wire for the blinking. Cut wisely as there isn't much slack in the wire coming out of the wiring harness
so you'll have to be careful or find yourself connecting more wire for extension. (I had to did this on one side.)
All in all, it looks pretty good. Made my older 1996 truck look much newer and more modern. It's stylish enough for most people to appreciate and not too gaudy like a 16 year old with purple lights under his car.
The lighting performance is so-so. It's definitely better than my yellowed out lights I had before. The bright lights make a weird pattern, sort of like a "Pac-Man" symbol with his mouth pointed toward the ground. It's kind of strange. I wish the light flooded out better with the low beams and was more directed with the high beams. But I can live with it.
If you need help installing this stuff you can call the seller, they're somewhat helpful, but they'll pretty much tell you what I've just wrote. For the longest time I thought all those wires were to give extra power to the headlights. If you want to just plug the bulbs up for the headlights you can. If you want to go a little flashier, you can follow the instructions above.
