First off, great Product for the price and happy with purchase. Some patience is needed though.I Chose the model without D-rings. I thought it was more for people to steel and I didn't like the idea of having a D-ring on each side. During a recovery, greater force is applied to one side of the bumper. So having a D-ring in the receiver hitch sounded smarter to evenly distribute force on the bumper to both sides during a recovery (Thats just my opinion, im sure the D-ring models would work fine).
I found a few issues worth addressing.
The bolts for the bumper did not line up the greatest during the install. Found an easy solution, start one bolt at a time switching side to side and then gradually tighten all up at once. It all molded together fine.
I didn't bother drilling or using the supplied bolts and brackets that bolt the bumper (nearer the center of the crossmember) to the crossmember. I did of course bolt the bumper to the crossmember using the main bolts supplied (2 on each end and 1 on each side underneath, to the frame.
I bought the frame tie-in kit, $40 off ebay(I highly recommend). The cross member that this bumper/tire carrier bolts to is thin steel and could easily see it bending or breaking over time or from a recovery. All together I used 6 bolts that came with the kit to secure the bumper, and the frame tie in kit adds 4 more (to the frame). Im very confident now with the setup.
Another little problem is the zerk grease fitting on the pivot for the carrier. It will break off when you open the tailgate of the jeep(unless you have a 1 inch body lift). I found another solution though. Went to Lowes and bought a bolt (that has a head with more clearance) to screw into the hole.
I also came into a problem with rattling. The rubber bump stop thats included is supposed to be mounted to the carrier and pushes up against the tailgate for stability. They don't tell you where to mount it though on the carrier. It did stabilize the carrier where I first mounted it (vertically center with the tailgate, but made my tailgate rattle on the jeep while driving. I moved the bump stop down lower and towards the passenger side of the tailgate (away from the latch of the tailgate, nearer to the hinge) which added leverage, to correct that issue.
The latch the carrier clicks into on the bumper also isn't the tightest, corrected though with a shim.
Overall, the set up looks amazing and for the price is excellent compared to the higher up brands, a little tinkering was needed with mine as you can see but im WAY happy with the buy. The higher end carriers also wont be perfect on install (every jeep is different) so don't think paying more will make life easier.
