RDS Fuel Tank Toolbox Combo - 40-Gallon Capacity, Model# 72775 Review

I have a GMC 2500 HD that I use for towing a 35 foot fifth wheel travel trailer. I need the convenience of having an extra fuel supply to reduce the number of fuel stops and security of additional fuel for those long stretches of highways between fuel stops.
I chose the RDS Fuel Tank Toolbox combo 40 gallon capacity model #72775 for the following reasons.
Less fuel weight @ 40 gallons vs larger tanks, (8 pounds per gallon).
This model has a 10" deep tool box compared to 6 " on other models.
Fits just below the bed rails in front of the internal fenders.
Allows room for my 5th wheel hitch to operate properly.

I received my RDS auxiliary fuel tank/tool box combo securely packaged in a cardboard box strapped to a wooden skid. The installation was simple and took approximately 1 hour to install both tank and fuel tank installation kit (GMC #3490902) that controls flow of diesel fuel from the auxiliary tank to factory tank. Additional time was required since I chose not to gravity feed the fuel. I added an inline filter (Fram from Wal-Mart) below the truck bed to the feed hose that was installed as part of the kit. The filter is connected to a Facet-Purolator FEP12SV Cube Universal Low-Pressure Solid-State Fuel Pump (4.0-7.0 PSI, 32 GPH) (purchased from [...]) which is connected to the control valve on the adapter supplied with the optional kit. The pump is controlled inside the cab to automatically fill the factory tank using an electric LED rocker switch purchased at Wal-Mart. The look of the tank is great. Not many people can tell it is a fuel tank. I found the tank to be very well constructed good welds and the fit and finish excellent. I would recommend this product to anyone requiring added fuel capacity in a diesel application.

Additional Notes:
When tank is positioned in truck bed, open lid and check back clearance.
Check the tabs to see if they match up to the high ridges in the bed. If not, use flat washers as spacers.
Pilot drill tank tabs from top, then drill from bottom for a straight centered hole.
Place tank back into position and mark truck bed through the tab holes.
Make sure there is no obstruction below bed of truck, then drill.
Drill hole for shut off valve and fuel line, check for obstruction. I had a brace and had to offset the hole. To keep from kinking the hose, I had to make a loop then run through the drilled hole.
Install the fuel pump below the bed to allow gravity feed to the pump.
Run the electrical wire to a switch, then connect to power source with an inline fuse. Be sure to ground.
(J.C. Whittney also carries the Facet Fuel pump)
