Bought this just before the holidays to use on a post holiday trip. I finally was able to install it the day before the trip because of the wacky company. We will ignore that the first one was delivered to the wrong dealer (probably not Extang's fault) but that was on the first in a series of mishaps. First, the "installs faster that you can open the box" is not accurate for most trucks. For trucks like my Nissan you have to install a set of brackets first--don't even bother to try and get it to work without doing this.

That's where the fun begins. They packed the directions for the right vehicle but the brackets looked different than the illustrations. We tried to get them to work but it became clear after a while that they probably were wrong. Of course it was near the holidays so they closed the plant and their 800 number didn't answer. When they reopened the person on the other end immediately confirmed the problem was that they had packed brackets for another vehicle. Then he wanted me to go outside (~about 20F with no coat) to read the lot number off the box. I kept telling him there was no lot number on either of the labels but he kept insisting that there had to be one. Finally after I said, "look I am freezing my butt here," he gave up and agreed to ship the right brackets. The brochure in the box says you should call them immediately if anything is wrong and they will SHIP OVERNIGHT. I don't know who gets the overnight shipping but mine were shipped UPS ground and arrived less than 24 hours before we were to leave. I had already invested in a tarp and a "bungee web" just in case.

Screwy company aside the unit is very well made and I am very happy with it. The brackets were relatively easy to install. It is very very difficult to latch on the back side. The trick is to slide the latch mechanism up tight against the bracket and pull hard at an angle to get it to hook over the bracket--I am the only one in the family that has mastered it. Also the clamps on the front are well underneath the cover so it actually would take a few minutes to undo them to remove the cover and if you don't have long arms you will have to crawl into the bed. Bottom line is that its not nearly as simple as they depict in their video but it still is well engineered for installation and removal albeit not painless.
